Mazda CX-6e presented as EZ-60 in China – New electric SUV may come this year
Mazda is working on a new electric SUV for the European market. The new Mazda CX-6e will probably be built on the basis of the new Mazda 6e and has now been spotted on German roads during test drives.
The new Mazda SUV will likely be called the Mazda CX-6e and will be based on the Arata concept car, which was first shown at the 2024 Beijing Motor Show. After a first prototype was discovered on the roads, there was now also the world premiere in China. Just in time for the Shanghai Motor Show 2025, there are new pictures and information about the new e-SUV.
- Mazda CX-6e based on the Mazda 6e
- Mazda EZ-60 in China, probably CX-6e in Europe
- Renewed cooperation with Changan Automobile
- Likely 80kWh battery with up to 620km range (CLTC)
- Market launch initially in China
- Possibly still in Europe at the end of 2025
The official presentation in Shanghai at Auto China shows new details and images for the electric SUV.
Mazda CX-6e on test drive – What we know so far
The front of the new electric SUV from Mazda (and Changan Automobile) stands out directly with the slim headlights, which frame the logo and the grille with the light bar in a smile. This striking view has already been discovered in the sighted prototype and gives the CX-6e and EZ-60 a modern look. Also clearly visible are the very narrow side mirrors of the prototype, which certainly benefit the aerodynamics.
The CX-6e is built on the same platform as the Mazda 6e. The EPA1 platform, which was led by joint venture partner Changan, is thus already being used in the second Mazda model.
This model represents a significant step in the electrification strategy of the Japanese brand, which aims to compete in the growing market for mid-size electric SUVs. The dimensions are also suitable with a length of 4,850 mm, a width of 1,935 mm and a height of 1,620 mm with a wheelbase of 2,902 mm.
With these dimensions, the EZ-60 is in the mid-size SUV segment and offers a balance between interior and maneuverability.
Two versions are available at the market launch in China: an electric SUV with an 80 kWh battery and 218 hp and an electric SUV with a range extender with just under 255 hp and a 31.7 kWh battery. The range extender version is said to have a range of 1,300 km. Both versions offer an electric driving experience with the added flexibility of the range extender on the EREV version.
The interior of the Mazda EZ-60 and CX-6e respectively features the same minimalist and digital approach from the electric Mazda 6e:
A large 26.45-inch touchscreen dominates the interior and physical buttons have to give way to touch and voice control. The Chinese signature of the partner Changan Automobile is clearly recognizable.
Mazda CX-6e on test drive: presentation and sales launch
The official unveiling of the Mazda CX-6e took place during the Shanghai Auto China 2025 auto show on April 23, 2025. In China, the model will be launched as the Mazda CX-60 and the market launch is also likely to be the first in the Far East. With the sighting of the prototype, it should be clear that the EZ-60 will also come to Germany as the CX-6e. However, it is still unclear when exactly. However, a launch in Europe before the end of the year is possible.
It is still unclear when exactly the European launch details will be, and we also do not yet know how expensive the Mazda CX-6e will be. In China, it will probably start at just under 200,000 yuan (about 27,000 €). As soon as there is new information here, we will update the article, until then we have to be patient until the European premiere
